Farming model - Agroforestry, Regenerative agriculture
Located at low altitude, Finca St Miguel is a recently renovated coffee farm entirely planted with the Mariana variety.
The project is built around a clear vision: securing yields in a challenging climatic environment while exploring the quality potential of a modern hybrid.
After a complete replanting three years ago, the farm has now entered a key stage of its development, with its first harvest completed at the end of 2025.
The initial results confirm the relevance of the agronomic choices, with coffees showing a high level of quality.
The Mariana Variety
Finca St Miguel is planted entirely with the Mariana hybrid, chosen for its adaptation to low-altitude conditions and its consistent yield.
The farm is divided into three distinct lots, each with different shade levels depending on the density of the forest canopy. Shade varies between 20% and 40%, which influences cherry maturation and the concentration of sugars, contributing to the complexity of the coffee.
The first harvested lots scored 83–84 points in cupping, highlighting the variety’s quality potential under these diverse growing conditions.
Coffee Under Canopy
The farm sits within a reforested landscape, designed to protect local water sources. While not a native forest, it now supports a diverse ecosystem, including sloths and various bird species.
Coffee grows under a carefully managed canopy, with shade levels varying across lots. This agroforestry approach slows cherry maturation, balances the microclimate, and contributes to biodiversity, all while enhancing the quality of the coffee.
